Information Regarding State Assessments
Dear North Ranchito Parents,
State testing is coming up! The California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) is required by state law. Beginning on Monday, May 2nd, fourth and fifth students will take the assessment in the area of English-language arts and mathematics.
We will test for a maximum of 90 minutes each day. Most days it is less. Students will be testing at approximately the same time, between 8:30-10:00 am, so the campus will be quiet and there will be no classroom interruptions. The first day of testing is Monday, May 2nd.
What you can do to ensure your child is at his/her best:
Students should be alert, rested and focused – but not too anxious.
Early bedtime, a good breakfast and a calm morning help.
Reassure students that there may be some questions they do not know – just try their best.
Be sure your child is in school every day unless he or she is ill; please schedule medical and dental appointments, if needed, for the afternoon.
You will receive a report of your child’s scores in the summer. Students’ individual scores from these tests are used for some purposes. Scores for all students are used to evaluate the educational program of the school. This test is ONE of multiple measures used to see how students are learning. Other elements include classwork, classroom tests, and district-wide reading and math assessments. If you have any questions about the meaning of the scores, your child’s teacher will be happy to review the scores with you in the fall. Should you have additional questions about this year’s testing schedule and procedures, please feel free to call our office.
Thank you for your support.
